I've never bought a hair straightener/curling iron. Can somebody answer some questions for me?

I've never straightened or curled my hair, and im thinking about buying one from target like 20-30 bucks. 3 questions:

1. people told me youre not supposed straighten/curl your hair when its wet.. but is it okay if i just like finish washing my hair and blow dry it like 70%? Or will it mess up my hair still?

2. How about if I just wake up (where I havent washed my hair for like 11 hours and its completely dry) and straighten/curl my hair and go to school? Or does it need to be a little damp?

3. People also told me you should put a cream on your hair to protect it. Do you put it on before or after you straigten your hair? Do you also need to put the cream on if youre curling it? What cream would you reccomend? I've seen like Garnier Fructis stuff on commercials, is that it?I've never bought a hair straightener/curling iron. Can somebody answer some questions for me?
okay i dont know much but i'll try...

1. hah. if you try to straighten/curl your hair when its wet, it will make a sizzling noise like something's burning. so you usually know something's wrong. i would use special spray and gel for heat treated hair. it helps A LOT. but i only blow dry my hair about 80% too and its fine.

2. it doesn't need to be damp. actually, it shouldn't. i shower at night and get up so my hairs a little curly. it also curls better when its a little dirty :P

3. the cream? it will say on the bottle. most likely you put it on before--most are like that. usually that cream is for ';heat'; which includes curling. but you can also get curl enhancing cream and straightening cream. there's SO many kinds. but i really like bed head products.

hope that helped :]I've never bought a hair straightener/curling iron. Can somebody answer some questions for me?
okay, when your hair is still wet you need to put heat protection in it if you plan on straightening it. Your hair has to be completely dry for you to straigten it or you will fry it, and you don't want that to happen. I like studio 360 heat protection from like revlon or maybelline or something. Its in a black bottle. If you shower before you go to bed or something put the stuff in it then wait for it to dry. Then straighten it.
i dont think you have to have damp hair to straignen it. DO NOT straighten your hair when its wet because that dries it out way to much and makes it become frizzy. you put in the hair serum or cream BEFORE you straighten it if your using it to protect your hair. you can also get products which you put in AFTER your straighten it to help keep the style and minimize frizz.
1. blow dry it ALL the way. damp hair burns

2. yeah you can do that. just put some detangling spray in it to give it SOME moisture.

3. you dont HAVE to but yeah garnier makes some really good ones, so does bed head.
u can get a ';wet2straight'; straightener
wet2staright straighteners work, but it like burns your hair a little. and it smells really bad. but they work, and if you do get a wet2straight, then blowdry most of your hair. that way, it doesnt small, it doesnt burn and it leaves your hair smooth. i got on and my sister got one. so i know how they work
do not buy the ';wet-to straight'; flat iron.

it's horrible for your hair.

you never want your hair to be damp when you straighten it.it will fry it and you will end up with damaged hair.

as for a a straightener...i really recommend a chi.they are very expensive though.at least $100

if you're looking for something cheaper...def go for a ceramic plated one. sally's beauty supply sells a chi knockoff for alot less that isn't that bad.i used to use it before i got my chi.

just ask the salesperson for the knockoff chi.they'll know which one.

i hate blowdrying my hair because it's so thick and takes 20 minutes but i'll just let my hair air-dry and then straighten if i'm not in a hurry.plus it's better for your hair to take a few days off from blowdrying.

as for a protectant i really like chi silk infusion.its a serum that makes your hair silky and prevents damages and flyaways.

after blow drying or air drying...matrix vavvoom gold heat protective spray is great.it sets the style and keeps your hair from being damaged.

both can be bought at trade secret or a salon.

try makeupalley.com for reviews on products to find one you like.
Its okay to have your hair a little damp when you straiten/curl It. but i don't suggest your hair being fully wet, then it could ruin the ceramic.

It doesn't need to be damp. its better when its dry.

It depends what kind of cream you put in your hair. sometimes if you buy the cheap stuff, it will make your hair worse. i suggest using professional products.

plus, i would get a top quality straitener so your hair will not be damaged over time. the 20$ ones will fry your hair.
if you straighten or curl your hair when wet it will end up frizzy. dont make the mistake of thinking the straighteners/curlers are hot so you dont need to have dry hair as they will dry it for you. they will dry it but they will make it frizzy and tatty in the process.

if you straighten or curl your hair when you wake up then thats fine, although it may be a little flat from sleeping. as long as its dry though it'll be ok

i wouldnt recommend cheap straighteners. most straighteners nowdays are ceramic and ppl think that is all thats important therefore why bother coughing up for expensive ones. the difference between the expensive ones and cheap ones is that the expensive ones are ceramic PLATED and the cheap ones are ceramic COATED. the ones that are ceramic coated will once again make your hair frizzy - even if you use them when your hair is dry! if you suffer from any frizz at all then you need a ceramic plated pair ie GHD.

if you really want to straighten your hair while wet then you can buy specific 'wet to straight' straighteners although i dont think they work very well. best thing is to just wash and blow dry your hair then straighten or curl it once its dry.

re the cream - it will give you directions on the bottle but most say put it on while the hair is wet and blow dry it.
